When first taking this unit
in, there was a little confusion upon the group and various aspects of the uni
weren't explained clearly, however in these situations it seemed you just had
to get on with it. It was hard to grasp at first but once I got into the
research, I personally thoroughly enjoyed researching into my chosen brand
'Calvin Klein'. It was very interesting to see how and why CK One was the way
it was. Each aspect that was created within the brand reflected upon the
cosmetic line. I am glad I went into more depth within the brand as a whole,
not only did I research into Ck One Colour cosmetics, I also looked into the
history of Calvin Klein as a whole. Especially being an icon house hold
designer name, known for his controversial, seductive ads and elegant style
within the catwalk.
However, the practical and
part of the theory side of this unit was very unorganized and a little vacant.
We firstly got very little practical make-up lessons and our theory lessons for
the brand section slowly stopped and we were left with not much to go by.
Again, this did not stop myself from carrying on my research and finding enough
information and influences to produce on my blog. The hair practical lessons
were extremely helpful and I honestly feel so much more confident. Regardless
of our make-up lessons being canceled, I carried on practicing and really felt
my techniques improved. Especially after we had a couple of visits from a
couple of make-up artists, one lady gave us in depth demos on fashion make-up and
went right back to basics also. Which I am very grateful for, these two hour
lessons, helped huge amounts and can honestly say these techniques that weren’t
taught, truly reflect upon my final images. Along with these demos, we were
also given compliments and constructive
criticism which was very important to help us learn from our mistakes and grow
as an artist.
In terms of my final
images, I wanted to reflect the brand within my looks, from researching Calvin
Klein as a whole. I feel technically, I worked hard to produce professional
make-up and wanted to portray the influence of Ck One within my final designs
and images. I feel there are various imperfections within my make-up images
that I could of fixed, but feel being the photographer it is hard to notice
these. Next time I will 100% use a photograph, meaning I will be able to see
the makeup up close and any areas that I would need to fix.
In conclusion, minus the
hiccups from various aspects of the unit, did not stop me from carrying my
project on. This was resolved finally and in the end I believe I learnt so much
this term and honestly feel so much more confident within myself as an artist.
